Even with 32bit EFI these macpros can still technically boot 64 bit, its just that apple dont release an update to allow this (netkas and others have shown its possible - and I am actually using my macpro in 64bit mode at the moment. When the Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 came out, the new EFI was being develpoed therefore these macpros did not have the appropriate chips to fit the 64bit EFI firmware. Machine no longer boots, just a black screen (no video, no startup chime). Now I stupidly tried installing an OSX update and i stole the graphics card out of it (680 Nvidia GTX) and replaced it with the Original 7300 gtx. This was already done when i bought the machine. I bought recently a MacPro 1,1 that had the 64-bit efi upgrade to MacPro 2,1 - running OSX Yosemite.
